The weather showed no mercy to the players of the European Young Masters on the first competition day. It was raining in the morning and there was strong north wind in the afternoon, which almost got the players out of rhythm. The course tolerated the precipitation well enough, there was only little casual water.
Concerning the best players, Ventura Kristoffer did not play well, but he hit 4 strokes behind his fellow countryman who hit 71. Kenny Subregis hit a triple on hole No. 14 and his round score is 72.
Regarding the girls, Lee Harang of Spain and the Italian Liti Roberta played PAR and the Belgium Charlotte De Corte is one stroke behind.
As for the performance of the Hungarian National Team, according to Damian McPherson, Team Captain, the youth are under huge pressure as the field is extremely strong and they definitely want to do well on home soil. Damian and the team will discuss the experience of the day as well as the strategy for tomorrow in the evening and they hope for the best for the second competition day.
After the first day, the results of the first three teams in the team competition are as follows: (1) Norway (+8); (2) Spain (+8), (3) Italy (+9).
The weather forecast predicts less rain for tomorrow, but it will still be windy. This will favour the good players again as the golfer who makes the least mistakes will win on this course.
Even the first day of the competition generated huge interest, many visitors attended the event at the Royal Balaton Golf & Yacht Club in Balatonudvari. Spectators will have access to the course free of charge on each competition day.
